Finding Calm in the Storm
October is Emotional Wellness Month. It couldn't have come at a better time, as the ongoing pandemic has triggered feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and mental exhaustion for many.
In honor of Emotional Wellness Month, we're sharing five simple ways that you can improve your mental wellness, manage your stress, and persevere through these difficult times. If you're working with clients, share these tips with them too!
Remember, small acts every day can lead to big improvements in your outlook, emotional state, and overall wellbeing.
Disconnect and reconnect
Avoid 'doomscrolling' by setting a limit on how much time you spend reading the news or on social media. Get reacquainted with old hobbies or find new ones that bring you joy and challenge your brain.
Reach out today
Send a text, make a call, or schedule a video chat with a friend or other confidant. Now more than ever, it's important to check in on your loved ones and stay connected with people who support you.
Manage your schedule
When you have too much on your plate, it's easy to neglect what matters. Make time for your mental health by slowing down. Say "no" to overlapping commitments and, if possible, reduce your workload to a more manageable level.
Find your center
If the pandemic has thrown you for a loop, you can regain your balance by focusing on being physically active, getting a good night's sleep, and eating well. You may also benefit from mindful breathing and meditation exercises.
Exercise your brain
The Versus Stress Exercises are designed to bring you peace of mind and body. As you play the games, you'll be rewarded for producing a quiet, yet alert brain state similar to that created during meditation. The Versus Exercises can also teach you to be resilient - providing you the skills needed to overcome interruptions or intrusive thoughts and regain your mental composure.
Begin your day with a clear, sharp mind by playing the Versus Focus Exercises before work or school. Or, quiet the stressors that keep you up at night by completing the Stress Exercises before bed.
